So Neal and I learned the proper way to make fire from our friend, Shawn. Probably one of my favorite vacations was camping with Shawn and Andi about two years ago. I have a pic in the US section on this site, I believe. We totally roughed it. No camp sites for us! And we hiked to the top of this hill and had to scale this rock. It was awesome. The view was amazing and I yelled down into the forest from the top, Garden-State style. I LOVED it.
Anyway, Shawn, a military man and Eagle Scout, taught us how to use thumb sticks and feather sticks and all of that. We had to make a fire the “right” way. Andi and I just wanted to sit by the fire and eat, and Neal and Shawn took an hour to make the freakin’ fire. But when they finally got it going, it was a good, self-sustaining fire.
So, Neal and I had a lot of sticks and stuff from cleaning up the yard this weekend, so Neal decided to bust out the outdoor firepit thing on Saturday night that his parents got us for Christmas. It took him FOREVER to get the fire started, but eventually he got it going. It was dark out, so we huddled around the fire with some hot chocolate. Not sure what it is about fire, but I could sit there and stare at it forever.
Isn’t it pretty! It was a lot of fun. I can’t wait to have company over on summer nights and we can fire it up. I tried to play around with my camera to get different shots. It was really fun to take pictures of fire!
I know I haven’t posted food in a while. As I said before, we’ve been trying to not make as much and utilize leftovers. But I have some things planned for this week. Stay tuned!
