I’m still in my PJs

I love lazy Saturdays. It’s 6:45 p.m. and I’m still wearing my pjs. HAHA. Awesome.

I’ve talked before about how Simone likes to jump on our backs. Her back claws are razor-sharp and it sucks. Here’s the damage she did to Neal.

Eeeeek! She draws blood!

Ferris, meanwhile, attacked a scarf of mine. He loves anything really furry, and the angora on this scarf drives him wild.

I have a video, too. But I’m having issues embedding it in my site, and at this point, I’m annoyed. You can see it by clicking here.

OK, so I made an apple pie today. I love making pie, as long as I have time. I do make my own crust, but use butter rather than shortening. As my grandmother, Nanny, says, the key ingredient is ice cold water.

I used my food processor to cut the butter into the flour rather than by hand. It worked really well, except I didn’t keep my eye on it as well as I usually do and added a tinge too much water, but it was still fine.

While the dough stayed cool in the fridge, I peeled and sliced the apples.

And then baked the plate of awesomeness. I did a lattice-top pie, because I like how they look.

Nanny makes incredible pie dough, and I used to really like helping her make them. When she made pies when I was younger, my favorite part was NOT the finished pie, it was what she did with the leftover pie crust. She’d sprinkle it with cinnamon and sugar and bake it until just crisp. Oh my, was it good. Tara and I would scarf this up like nobody’s business. I wonder if that’s why I’m such a carb lover today? So in true Nanny-fashion, I baked up the leftover dough and enjoyed it with glass of milk while my pie was baking.

It’s also a good tester for how flaky your crust will be. :) I knew I was going to have some good, flaky crust after this.

I played around on Photoshop for a lot of the day. While I really value unadulterated photos, some are fun to play around with. I’ll try to post some of the things I play around with soon.

I also made some mac and cheese for dinner. I have wanted to try Alton Brown’s Mac and Cheese so I decided to give it a shot.

While very good, I like Martha Stewart’s version the best. I’ve tried, but I’m striking out finding a recipe to match Martha’s.

I realized that I’ve been slack on cat pictures. What’s with that? Simone’s starting to give me the side-eye. I’ll work on taking lots of cute pictures of them tomorrow, HAHA.
