O Christmas Tree

So, Saturday was a good day. A really good day.

Neal and I woke up early, had a nice breakfast and headed to a local tree farm to get a Christmas tree. We spent a fortune last year on a pre-cut tree. So we decided to save $30 and head to a farm and cut down our own. Plus, it’s fun that way.

I love the look of tree farms. And evergreens lined up in a row in graduated sizes makes for really cool pics.

It was cold. Very cold. We had to cross a dried up creekbed, but I spied a little bit of the frozen stuff left.

Oh, and this little guy really stuck out like a sore thumb among all the green lushness.

Neal and I are pretty decisive people. We picked out our tree in about 45 seconds. Seriously. Well, actually, we got sidetracked by a cute lab puppy. But if you take out that part, it did take us about 45 seconds.

Here’s Neal measuring and cutting down our tree. We got one that was about 6 1/2 feet.

So, the best thing happened. I ran into Emily, a good friend of mine from grade school. I haven’t seen her in years! We were really good friends, inseparable, and she still cracks me up. The first thing she said to me was “Oh my God. I read your blog!” Turns out, she takes grad classes with my cousin, who told her about my blog. HAHA! I was excited she enjoyed reading. Em said she wants to come over and make food with me and then blog about it, HAHA. Anytime, Em!

Anyway, of course I had Neal take our picture.

She’s really tall. Well, I’m really short (have to wear heels to hit 5 feet). But she’s also really tall. So anyway, thanks for reading, Em!

OK, so Neal and I got home and worked on decorating the tree. Neal’s the expert “arranger” of the lights, so I leave that up to him.

I took shots of some ornaments. Here’s one of my great-grandmother’s that my grandmother gave to us last year.

This Santa is one ornament in a set my grandparents gave us as a wedding present. Each ornament represents some aspect of marriage.

And this ornament is from the hotel we stayed in on our honeymoon. The Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, California.

The cats love the tree.

Ferris has this unnatural obsession with our tree skirt that Neal’s mom gave us. I love it, and so does Ferris. He bites it and tries to rip off all the appliques. He’s hopeless.

The cats got sap on them and Simone had a clump on her head. I walked into the living room to find Ferris licking the sap off of Simone. He always cleans her and takes care of her. He’ll clean out her ears and get anything off of her fur. She doesn’t do the same for him, though. Princess!

After dinner, I decided I wanted to make biscotti. I saw a recipe for it online. I left out the orange zest, and just made almond biscotti. I think they turned out really well!

I decided to dip some in melted chocolate. Neal took some shots while I did so.

I’m sure they’ll be nice with some hot chocolate or tea!

So tomorrow, I’m meeting Andi and Amanda at Park City for some unnecessary shopping. I’m looking forward to hanging out with them!
