OK… so… my “future” sister-in-law told me about this show, Locked up Abroad, on the National Geographic channel. It’s a show where people tell their VERY REAL stories about being jailed in other countries.
Neal and I searched for it on our DVR and recorded two shows. We watched the “Bangladesh” one last night.
Holy freakin’ crap is this show good! It’s shot very similar to our all-time favorite show “I Shouldn’t be Alive” (it used to air on the Discovery channel but there haven’t been new eps in forever). They interview the person and then have an actor re-enact everything. Just like “I Shouldn’t Be Alive,” they actually have really good actors and don’t shoot the typical blurry, stupid, corny re-enactments. I mean, they actually put a budget into these actors and scenes to make them look so real. When this woman was in jail, I was sick to my stomach. I couldn’t imagine. Basically, the story is she agreed to smuggle heroin out of Bangladesh and got caught. She was sentenced to life in prison and served four years before some congressman got her a pardon.
I mean, she did commit a crime, so she deserved to serve some time. It was fascinating to see how other countries treat their prisoners and all of that.
So seriously, great show. I recommend. And if you ever happen to catch “I Shouldn’t Be Alive” on the Discovery Channel, you better watch it. Every story is an incredible account of human perseverance. The stories are about plane crashes, animal encounters, getting lost in the Amazon rainforest, having a boulder fall on your legs, shipwreck. These people seriously almost die, and some do. But there’s always at least one survivor to tell the story. Amazing show!!
We have another episode of “Locked Up Abroad to watch tonight.” Eeeek! Hopefully I don’t have nightmares…
