So, we had a pretty good weekend. My boss had a party at his house for all of the employees and it was a lot of fun. He got steamed crabs (YUM!!) and we all brought side dishes. There was tons of food and since I have no willpower whatsoever, I stuffed my face. It was great.
I was grumpy on Sunday. Not sure why. We made our ol’ dinner standby of turkey burgers.
Ferris dumped his toy basket over and proceeded to hide from them under the front door rug.
Yes, they have tons of toys. Their toys consist of plastic straws, string toys, rope toys, Ikea plush toys, puff balls, etc. And yes, there are also those little outlet covers that people usually buy to prevent kids from sticking their fingers in the electrical sockets. We bought them when the cats were kitten because they kept sticking their noses in the outlets. It’s funny, because sometimes they carry the little covers around in their mouths and it looks like a pacifier.
Ferris’s new favorite toy is Neal’s wrist watch. He’ll find it after Neal takes it off, pick it up by the plastic band and carry it around until he finds a hiding spot where he can sit and gnaw on it. Yeah, we bought all these toys, but yet he thinks he’s entitled to chew on Neal’s watch. Grrrrrrr.
Simone fell asleep on Neal’s leg.
And overall, they were just dang cute this weekend.
On Monday, it was back to work. Busy day. There was a bad wind/hail storm so there were a lot of claims called into the office. Kept me busy and made the day go fast. I like that.
I came home and made bruschetta chicken. I had seen this recipe online and was dying to make it. Plus, I had some tomatoes that were going to go bad soon, and not much else. I was able to put my fresh basil to use from my herb garden.
It’s chicken, cooked with balsamic vinegar and olive oil with a little mozzerella cheese. It’s topped with a mix of tomatoes, basil, garlic and some more balsamic vinegar. I put it over some brown rice. It was really good! Neal actually really liked it. He took a bite and said “Mmmmmmm.” Now, I know that might not seem like a big deal, but Neal NEVER makes any sort of noise when he eats. He just eats and then goes back to whatever he was going beforehand. He also got this concentrated look on his face and said “Is that basil?” HEHE. So, that was a hit with the hubby.
I have my family reunion this Saturday, and I need to make a side dish. Any suggestions? I’m thinking a pasta salad, but I’m not sure. I’m really looking forward to the reunion, but I’m bummed because I have to miss my college friend’s bachelorette party. I’ll be thinking of ya, Jodie!
On a random note, my spell check doesn’t recognize bachelorette. How chauvinist!
So, any suggestion for a picnic side dish? Nothing too sophisticated…. we’re talking about my PA Dutch side here….
